Miami Open 2026 Title: Aryna Sabalenka defeated Coco Gauff in a thrilling three-set battle to win the Miami Open title and complete the prestigious “Sunshine Double.”
The world No. 1 produced another dominant display to overcome the fourth-ranked American in a match that lasted 2 hours and 11 minutes. Sabalenka controlled the opening and deciding sets with powerful groundstrokes and aggressive baseline play to seal her second consecutive Miami Open title.
With the victory, Sabalenka became the first player since Iga Swiatek in 2022 to win both Indian Wells and the Miami Open in the same season.
The title also improved Sabalenka’s head-to-head record against Gauff to 7-6.
“You’ve pushed me to be a better player,” Sabalenka told Gauff during the trophy ceremony. She also praised the atmosphere created by the Miami crowd, saying, “You always bring a full stadium.”
Sabalenka Dominates Key Moments in Miami Open Final
The match saw momentum swings throughout, especially after Gauff fought back strongly in the second set to force a decider.
However, Sabalenka quickly regained control early in the third set by breaking Gauff’s serve in the opening game. The American struggled with consistency on serve throughout the final and finished with seven double faults, while Sabalenka remarkably committed none.
On the crucial break point early in the third set, Sabalenka crushed a backhand winner that shifted the momentum completely in her favor.
“I was disappointed about that first game of the third set up 30-0 with momentum,” Gauff admitted after the match. “It was an important game to win in that moment.”
The contest eventually ended with Gauff being broken for the fourth time after sending a backhand wide.
Crowd Drama Adds Tension During Final
The final also featured a tense moment involving the crowd.
During a long rally, a fan shouted “out,” which visibly frustrated Sabalenka. The Belarusian responded angrily and used inappropriate language toward the spectator before the chair umpire stepped in.
The umpire warned the crowd and also issued Sabalenka a code violation for her reaction.
Speaking later during the ceremony, Sabalenka apologized for the incident.
“I shouldn’t be that rude, but come on, you cannot do that,” she said. “So let’s agree we were both wrong, so sorry.”
Despite the distraction, Sabalenka stayed focused and closed out the match strongly.
Coco Gauff Enjoys Strong Home Tournament Run
Although Gauff fell short in the final, the American enjoyed one of her best runs at her hometown tournament.
Before this year, Gauff had never advanced beyond the fourth round of the Miami Open. Her strong performances throughout the tournament delighted local fans, who loudly supported her during the final.
“It sucks not to come out with a better result, but I had a lot of joy this week,” Gauff told the crowd. “You guys brought energy every day this week.”
The final was also attended by Kai Trump, granddaughter of Donald Trump. Kai later shared a photo with Sabalenka on social media after the match.
Sabalenka Continues Dominant 2026 Season
The Miami Open triumph marked the 24th professional singles title of Sabalenka’s career and further strengthened her position as the top-ranked player in women’s tennis.
Her ability to dominate big tournaments with aggressive baseline tennis has made her one of the toughest players to beat on hard courts.
Heading into the clay-court season, Sabalenka now carries strong momentum after capturing back-to-back major titles during the Sunshine Double swing.
